General Motors has found a large enough issue with the 2024 and 2025 Silverado / Sierra 2500 HD / 3500 HD with the 10 speed "Allison" Transmission, that they released a Service Update for all owners.
The issue is there may be sediment in the transmission pan / filter that was generated during transmission assembly. The transmission output shaft bearing is pressed into the case and when doing so, could put debris in the transmission. This debris will then fall into the transmission pan during use and eventually sucked into the filter. Once in the filter, the fluid is now restricted to a point that made GM concerned enough to call in all vehicles for a transmission service. The owners will get a new transmission filter installed with fresh fluid.
Coverage is based on your vin number and may not apply to all, but at this point it sure sounds like it does. This is a phased launch, so owners will be notified at different time intervals. One can check their coverage by asking their servicing dealer to run the vin number on IVH (Investigate Vehicle History).
Dealers are to check history whenever a vehicle comes in for service, so a good dealer will let you know if you are part of the service update if you come in for a service or repair. All in stock vehicles will also be checked before they can be sold, so if you are looking to buy used, it is likely that the vehicle will have this taken care of without any further inconvenience.
